Our Wedding at Rockbeare Manor
For us, that was Rockbeare Manor.
Having photographed weddings myself, I’m normally the person watching the day unfold from behind the camera. But this time I was on the other side of the lens, getting married to Stacy and experiencing the whole wedding day as the groom.
And it gave me a completely different appreciation of just how much goes into making a wedding run smoothly.
From the moment we arrived, the team at Rockbeare Manor were exceptional. Everything felt organised without ever feeling regimented, and the staff had that rare ability to keep everything moving while still allowing us to simply enjoy the day.
That made an enormous difference.
A Wedding Day That Just Flowed
One of the things that stood out most was how effortlessly the day seemed to move from one part to the next.
As a couple, you don’t necessarily see all of the planning happening behind the scenes, but you certainly notice when things are working well.
The team knew where everyone needed to be, what was happening next and when things needed to happen, but we never felt hurried.
That meant we could concentrate on the important part, actually enjoying our wedding.
And from a photographer’s point of view, that sort of organisation is incredibly valuable.
When a venue runs smoothly, it creates more opportunities for natural photographs because the couple and their guests are relaxed rather than worrying about timings and logistics.
The People Made the Difference
The venue itself is beautiful, but what really made our experience was the people.
Everyone we dealt with was friendly, calm and genuinely invested in making sure we had a brilliant day.
Nothing felt like too much trouble.
That atmosphere carries through to the wedding itself. When you have a team around you who know exactly what they’re doing, you relax. Your family relaxes. Your guests relax.
And that is when some of the best wedding photographs happen.
Not because somebody has been told where to stand or how to smile, but because people are simply enjoying themselves.
Seeing Rockbeare Manor Through a Photographer’s Eyes
Even though I was the groom rather than the photographer, I couldn’t completely switch off the photography part of my brain.
I found myself noticing the light, the grounds, the different spaces around the venue and all the little opportunities there are for photographs throughout the day.
But what I also realised is that knowing a venue is about much more than knowing where the nicest backgrounds are.
Having now experienced a wedding at Rockbeare Manor from beginning to end, I understand how the venue actually works on a wedding day.
I know how the day flows.
I know how the different spaces are used.
I understand when there are natural gaps in the schedule that can be used for couple photographs without taking you away from your guests for ages.
And, perhaps most importantly, I know what it feels like to be the person being photographed there.
Why That Matters If I Photograph Your Wedding
My approach to wedding photography is relaxed and natural.
I don’t want couples to spend their wedding day disappearing for endless photographs or feeling as though they are taking part in a photoshoot.
Having been the groom at Rockbeare Manor gives me another perspective entirely.
If I photograph a wedding there, I’m not arriving at the venue completely cold.
I already understand the setting and how the day feels from the couple’s side.
That means I can plan photographs around your wedding rather than expecting your wedding to revolve around the photographs.
Of course, every wedding is different, and every couple will use the venue in their own way. But having that first-hand experience gives me a really useful starting point.
A Venue We’ll Always Remember
Rockbeare Manor will obviously always be special to Stacy and me because it is where we got married.
But putting that personal connection aside, we genuinely could not have asked for a better experience.
The venue was beautiful, the organisation was excellent and the staff were fantastic from start to finish.
We were able to enjoy the day knowing everything was being taken care of around us.
And having now experienced Rockbeare Manor both as a photographer and as a groom, I would love the opportunity to return with a camera in my hand next time.
